Moorestown Day Recap | live civilly

A huge thank you to everyone who came out to Moorestown Day!  It was a beautiful day and live civilly got to meet so many new people!  We are so grateful to the many people who helped us to prepare for our fourth visit to Moorestown Day.  Over the last four years live civilly has grown from its humble beginnings to an organization that now provides service to communities through hundreds of volunteers and thousands of volunteer hours.

Live Civilly Moorestown Day TentThank you to the Seed Starters!  The youth and families who participated in our Grow One Give One campaign!  Thanks to all of you under the direction of our amazing Garden Coordinator, Toni Farmer, live civilly had a wide variety of seedlings available and boy were they a hot commodity!  Thank you to all who donated their time and their plants – we look forward to doing it again next year!

Thank you to our friend Gretchen Hulse at Crescent Moon Clothing for the use of her tent!  Thank you to our volunteers, Emily Ecker and Brady Farmer who rocked the magnet sales and Audrey and Caitlyn Barr for working the booth!  Thank you to our fantastic Board:  Toni Farmer, Garden Coordinator for the Grow One Give One program and professional advice for purchasers of the seedlings!  To Adrienne Barr, Volunteer Coordinator, for Growing Sharing Learning signing people up for programs and chatting up interested parties!  To Ricky Lovelace, Technology Coordinator, for keeping us “live on the web” and rockin’ in the social media realm!  And thank you to all of the supporters who shared our posts and brought the crowd to the booth!

For many of you this is the first blog you have received from us, so we want to be sure we share all of the important information that is available!  WELCOME TO THE live civilly NATION!  By signing up for our blog you are saying, “I am interested in helping my community and others!”  so we will do our best to keep you informed of volunteer opportunities over the summer and throughout the year.  For students needing service hours, live civilly has a Volunteer Hours Form (insert pdf link here) which can be filled out and submitted in conjunction with school forms.

live civilly is proud to announce a wide variety of volunteer activities available to all of you this summer.  For those interested in food pantry initiatives and nutritional outreach there are some great family friendly activities this Together We Achievesummer.  Food Pantry Sorting and Stocking is BACK!  In order to better accommodate our volunteers summer schedules and the needs of the pantry, this activity has moved to THURSDAY AFTERNOONS!  Youth and families come to the live civilly/Moorestown Ministerium Food Pantry located at St. Matthew Lutheran Church and help to organize and stock the pantry shelves.  This activity is easily accessible to families and children as young as 3.  Sign up and choose your date!

Another fun and easy – but oh so important activity is the Food Collection from the Department of Parks & Recreation Summer Concert Series.  This summer Concerts will take place on the lawn of the Moorestown Community House on Mondays, June 22 through August 10. Admission is free, however, all attendees are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to help live civilly support our local food pantries “because hunger doesn’t take summer vacation.”  Families are encouraged to sign up for a concert date to pick up any food that is donated, and deliver it to one of the local food pantries.  Details are available in our sign up genius!

For those who love to garden, there are plenty of gardening opportunities in the live civilly One Garden-One Live Civilly Community GardensWeek program.  This program asks youth and families to adopt one of the four live civilly Community Supported Gardens for one week.  During that week the families will water, weed, harvest and deliver produce to one of the local food pantries or to another site that will be set up for distribution.  Master Gardeners and garden volunteers will lead novice and seasoned volunteers alike.  A complete instructional page will be given to each volunteer group in advance of their volunteer time.

The Summer Lunch Program is in its third year and provides campers lunch support.  Youth and families wanting to help provide lunches through the Summer Lunch Program can register via sign up genius now!  Youth and families make bagged lunches and deliver them to the various Recreation Summer Camp programs.  All lunch materials are provided and instructions regarding delivery and retrieval of lunches.  Anywhere from 70-90 lunches are made and delivered twice weekly.  Families can sign up for one week at a time.  All lunch materials are located on the Third Floor of the Church Street Recreation Center as well as lunch bags and directions.

Please contact live civilly with any questions about any of these summer volunteer opportunities.  We look forward to your participation in our programs and the live civilly NATION.
