Summer Lunch Thank You! | live civilly

A huge thank you goes out to the live civilly March Madness Basketball Tournament players today. Why today you ask? March was forever ago – dude, it was COLD! However, this thank you goes out today because the Annual Tournament is a fundraiser for live civilly programs that partner with the Moorestown Department of Parks & Recreation. The proceeds of this tournament have been put to good use all summer, providing more than 600 lunches for at-risk youth who receive scholarships to attend local camps.

Made Summer Lunches For At Risk Youthlive civilly, for the fourth year in a row, has partnered with the Moorestown Department of Parks & Recreation on a variety of levels. live civilly is a youth service organization whose focus is promoting service opportunities. In addition to providing service opportunities, live civilly also provides services to local youth and families in an effort to provide some stability to those who struggle with nutritional or educational security. These efforts include the partnership and management of the live civilly/Moorestown Ministerium Food Pantry, the ExCELS Snack Program at the Church Street Recreation Center (September through June) and the Summer Lunch Program. Through its partnership with the Department of Parks & Recreation live civilly was able to secure funds to continue these programs through 2016.

The Summer Lunch Program is in its fourth year. This summer, the live civilly Founders have awakened and put together healthy lunches for children daily. The lunch recipients attend the Department of Parks & Recreation summer camps and are located at 5 sites. The lunches consist of sandwiches, snacks, granola/breakfast bars, waters and an alternative drink and fresh fruit, which has graciously been donated from the Browning-Hess Farm. Once the lunches are ready, the founders send the live civilly Board (the only folks with driver’s licenses) out to distribute the lunches. The “lunch ladies” are met with smiles, and sometimes even hugs, as the lunches are delivered.

The most important thing to note about The Summer Lunch Program, as with all of live civilly’s programSummer Lunch Donationss, is that it doesn’t happen because of one or two people. It happens because of ALL of the supporters that we have gathered over the years. From individuals, to schools, to congregations to businesses … the support that live civilly has earned has helped us to make sure these programs stay in place. Supporters of our basketball tournament in March can know that their participation and contributions are greatly appreciated! THANK YOU to all of our supporters, but today, a special thank you to the 2016 live civilly March Madness Tournament players. Your support of the tournament has enabled live civilly to continue to provide local families with support this summer.

We hope that all of our supporters will Save the Date for the First Annual live civilly Harvest Festival on Saturday, November 5. This inaugural event will be a celebration of volunteerism and community service! Mark your calendars now or email us at contact@livecivilly.org for more information!
